Adopt Smart Policies on Crime
Delegate Levi’s Record of Action
Delegate Levi has been a leader in promoting state policies designed to lower crime by lowering the re-arrest rate of ex-offenders. In 2009, she sponsored two bills that became law. One set up a Statewide Reentry Task Force to coordinate state policy around ex-offenders and a second making it easier for ex-offenders to obtain occupational licenses and get employment after prison16. She has also been a leader on gang policy and juvenile justice policy in Annapolis and serves on the Maryland Juvenile Council.
Crime fighting will require building on and maintaining:
- Strong Police Presence on the Streets;
- The Best Crime Control Technology & Crime Fighting Strategies; and
- Collaboration with Washington, DC & the Federal Government.
In addition, it will require:
- Step 4: Combating the “Stop Snitchin’” Campaign to Silence Witnesses; and
- Step 5: Policies Focused on Juveniles and on Lowering the Re-Arrest Rates of Ex-Offenders
16HB 635 and HB 637 (2009)
